Wayne Howard-Saunders (British, 1978) a.k.a “The Painless Artist” creates striking, thought-provoking art by using a multi-discipline of mediums to enhance the message and visual outcome from; digital media, painting, drawing and physical forms.
Wayne expresses his creative freedom by telling his story of lived experiences, trauma, living with spinal injuries & other disabilities, anxiety, chronic pain, relationships and humour which all come out through his work. Wayne was taught Art & Design in London. Educated at Hertfordshire. Univ. in Product Design and an MA in Digital Design.
He also earned an FdSc in forensic science at Queen Mary’s, London. He worked in the retail sector, freelance design, media & communications and the civil service. Wayne is related to the English painter Edgar Bundy (1862-1922) who specialised in historical paintings and his work is held in The Tate Museum.
His creative work has gone full circle and drawn back to the arts as of late by using art therapy to help unravel his experiences and subconscious. Wayne’s style is influenced by an interest in anatomy from a young age, surrealism & symbology, the work of artist Nial Adams, psychotherapy, music, disrupted sleep dream states, pain, and lived experiences.
Wayne finds an idea or thought, paints a scene and goes with snap decisions of placing objects which he says feels right, which unlocks some interesting findings and makes sense! He struggles daily with his disabilities which he tries to keep adapting to and evolving. In turn, it keeps him being creative, fulfilled and a distraction from the human condition.
Wayne is naturally creating his first online exhibition with a body of work titled “A Journey of Emotion” to promote the impact of cauda equina syndrome in collaboration with the Champions Charity. The benefits of art therapy and his quest to live with reduced pain through art, hence the name The Painless Artist.
